Iris Van Herpen

Dutch fashion designer, Iris Van Herpen has collaborated with architect Daniel Widrig to create a 3D printed garment as part of her recent spring-summer collection, “Crystallization”, inspired by the process of water transforming into crystal.

FOC Freedom of Creation

 
Rapid Manufactured (RM) textiles have opened a new frontier of possibilities for the production of textiles in the future. Instead of producing textiles by the meter, then cutting and sewing them together into final products, the concept has the ability to make
needle and thread one day obsolete. After several years of research in software, materials and surface quality, the first commercial products were launched for the
public by Freedom of Creation (FOC) in 2005.
FOC, Amsterdam-based design consultancy are pioneers in 3D printing, and recently showed the collection of 3D printed textiles and pieces woven in 3D-printed fabrics at the MOMA in New York, as part of the exhibition “Action! Design Over Time”.


 

Since there are no machines in the world made specifically to manufacture interlocking textile patterns by layers, they employed Rapid Manufacturing techniques,
such as Laser Sintering (LS) for their manufacture.

Eunsuk Hur



Eunsuk Hur graduated  in 2009 from Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London with a degree in Design for Textile Futures. She experiments a new way of getting dressed or of decorating your house by proposing in a modular approach in her project Nomadic Wonderland. A system of "puzzle" which allows to assemble (according to your wish and your creativity) elements of various materials: leather, felt, wood. Eunsuk uses etching, sewing, and LASER CUTTING  techniques(among other things) to create her installations and fashion. A bag, a dress, a screen ... you can create the work you want !!

 Finding inspiration in everything from a movie to architecture, Swedish textile designer Camilla Diedrich is challenging conventional ideas of what textiles should be. She is one of the first designers to structure textiles in terms of negative space by cutting holes into them using a laser. This exploration of negative space has led to the incredible transformation of a fabric's flat surfaces into richly-textured, three-dimensional forms. Her most iconic product to date is the BPL Lamp for Rotaliana which is wrapped in the Bubbly textile.

 

 Textiles are normally flat. To transform  them into a three dimensional shape, she use here the ancient japanese dyeing technique shibori.














Aleksandra Gaca 3D weave textile

Aleksandra Gaca is a textile designer from the Netherlands whose fascination with three dimensional weave structures has led to the creation of unique acoustical textiles. For inspiration she draws from the structure and repetition found in architecture as well as from more dynamic concepts such as dance, drama and movement. Aleksandra use different materials, from soft mohairs to strong monofilaments which make her high tech fabrics particularly qualified for wall covering, partitions or screens within architectural spaces.

3 D textiles by Anne Kyyrö Quinn

Innovative contemporary 3D textiles by Anne Kyyrö Quinn. A step away from conventional fabrics, these modern creations are more like pieces of artwork than fabrics. Cut, sewn and finished by hand, each fabric is crafted in a way that it seems almost like a living, moving entity.

Three-dimensional scupltures from textiles is a relatively new concept, one which Anne Kyyrö Quinn has mastered to a fine art. Whether it be cushions, throws, table runners, wall panels or blinds, each creation gives its surrounding a more profound appeal to that of a standard fabric.



3D-Tex PES / PP KHF

3D-TEX by Mayser are three-dimensional formed fabrics which have been impregnated with a stabilising resin system. The textiles which are preferably used are knitted fabrics made of polyester, polyamide or cotton. The degree of stability of 3D-TEX can be controlled by the variable resin coats in different based materials ranging from elastic to stiff.



3D-TEX has been especially designed and developed to be used as a flexible core material for the production of sandwich components, and is used for the production of metallic façade systems.
But it can be used in other applications as well. Because 3D-Tex is a highly flexible material it can be used in the designer milieu for the creation of lampshades or for lighting elements in exhibition installations.
